About the route
In the Middle Ages, Barcelona was the capital of a Mediterranean empire. Its merchants traded from Sicily to Alexandria, and the kings of the Crown of Aragon ruled from the palace on Plaça del Rei.
This route crosses the heart of that city: thousand-year-old monasteries, the street of the merchants' palaces, the cathedral of the sea, the old hospital and the shipyards where the royal galleys were built.
